John Young Barr, age 90, of Hardy Va. and formerly of Ellwood passed away Monday, February 22, 2021. He was the son of the late George and Emma (Young) Barr and was born January 7, 1931.
John is survived by his wife, loving friend and caregiver, Shirley Riney Barr; daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Richard Greiner of Huntington Beach, CA; four grandsons: John Houston (Rachel), Thomas, Gregory (Karen) and Qui Greiner; granddaughter, Kelli Greiner; and two great-grandsons, Graham and Leon Greiner.
John is predeceased by his son John Thomas Barr, brother George Kerr Barr, and sister Martha Ann Barr Johnson.
A graveside will be held in Ellwood City at a later date.
Interment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in John’s name to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 13586 Old Moneta Road, Moneta, Va. 24121

My memories of John go way back to the time I was a “go-for” helping him make changes to the Bethlehem Church phone system. He always had interesting stories about his time with the telephone company.
There was also the good times Lee and I had with John and Shirley and the after church meal group. Church bazaars and pot luck suppers always got John’s highest praise if they included lemon meringue pie.
Although I have not seen John since we moved to Lynchburg I still harbor fond memories. My sympathy to you, Shirley and to your family.
