The Lady Wolverines put together another solid team effort and defeated Union on Tuesday evening in a battle of unbeaten teams. Ellwood City came away with a 5-3 victory in the hard fought win.
Ellwood City got the scoring started in the top of the 3rd inning. Ava Dausman reached second base on a throwing error by the shortstop on a hard hit ground ball. She moved to third on a groundout by Kennedy Brown and scored on a two out single by Amber Mcquistion.
The fifth would see Ellwood City increase their lead to 2-0. Once again, Dausman started things as she singled into center and promptly stole second. She would alertly come around to score on an rbi groundout by Lexi Beck.
The Wolverines made it 3-0 in the 6th as Emma Bogacki led things off with 205 foot triple that one bounced the fence in left center field. She scored on the very next pitch as Kaylee Palombi grounded out to third.
Ellwood City scored their final two runs in the seventh inning. Dausman struck again for the third time as she singled into right field and moved to third on a single into right by Beck. After Beck moved up to second base, both would come around to score on a single up the middle by Mcquistion.
Union made a nice comeback effort in their final at bat as they plated three runs. Bogacki entered the circle with one out and quickly fanned two of the final three batters to end the threat and the game.
Mcquistion was dominant in the circle. She picked up the win as she went 6 and a third innings. She fanned 14 and walked just two while scattering five hits. Bogacki got the save striking out two and walking one in two thirds of an inning.
Defensively, the young ladies were on point as they committed just 1 error. Mcquisiton, Bogacki, and Palombi all recorded putouts on infield pop ups and fleet footed center fielder Kiley Leviere made a nice catch on a line drive in the 5th inning.
Offensively, five players combined for eight hits on the night. Mcquisiton, Brown, and Dausman contributed two hits apiece while Bogacki added a triple and Beck a single. Dausman scored three times while Bogacki and Beck scored once.
The Lady Wolverines will look for win number 8 on Thursday as Wilmington comes to Merit Book Park. First pitch is set for 6pm.
