Jack W. Lloyd, 96

Jack W. Lloyd, 96, of Medina Ohio passed away April 8, 2020. He was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania, on December 17, 1923 to the late Lawrence David and Mildred Pauline McClelland Lloyd.

Jack proudly served his country in WWII from 1943-1946. He was in the Third Armored Division, which was a Spearhead Unit (meaning they were the first in battle). He was captured and held P.O.W. by the Germans during the last six months of the war.

Jack was an active member of the “Barbed Wire Buckeyes”, a P.O.W. group for WWII veterans, for many years. He also was a member of the V.F.W., D.A.V., the American Legion, and was a member of Masonic Lodge 599 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania for over 50 years.

Jack was chosen to make an audio recording with the Veteran’s History Project housed in the Library of Congress. From those archives, his audio piece was chosen by ABMC, a federal agency of the Executive Branch responsible for the operation and maintenance of America’s 24 overseas commemorative cemeteries, memorials, monuments and markers, to represent voices of the Third Armored Division at the Normandy American Cemetery’s Interpretive Center, located at Colleville-sur-Mer, just above Omaha beach.

Jack worked for many years as a Mechanical Engineer for Mathews Conveyor Company/Rexnord in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. As such he installed conveyor systems nationwide. Some of his conveyor projects were with Lipton Tea, IBM in New York, Dulles Airport, and the New York Postal System.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting, and boating. He cherished his family, and they cherished him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Frances Louise Hazen Lloyd; loving children Beth Imars and David (Gloria) Lloyd; dear grandchildren Lindsey White and Rebecca (Dustin) Jordan; seven great-grandchildren Connor, Emma, Addison, Ayden, Kelsey, Jackson, and Cameron; brother Lawrence D.(Ethel) Lloyd; sister-in-law Betty (Harold) Lloyd; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his brother Harold Lloyd and his sister-in-law Ethel Lloyd.

Our beloved deserves a tribute, but in this time of the Covid-19 pandemic, he will be honored and celebrated with a private family service. Please be with us in prayer. At a later date a memorial service with full military honors at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville will be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Hospice Of the Western Reserve, 5075 Windfall Rd. Medina, Oh 44256. The family thanks them for their compassion and dedicated care.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Waite Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina OH 44256. Online condolences may be left at waitefuneralhome.com
