Overnight Storm Ravishes Ellwood City Area

Severe thunderstorms ravished the Ellwood City with high winds last night downing many trees, damaging homes, and businesses in the area.

Overnight weather reports describe severe thunderstorms stretching into Ellwood City at 55 mph with wind gusts to 60 mphand quarter-size hail.

A large tree toppled down on Glen Avenue damaging utility poles and wires. No injuries have been reported.

Additional damages reported by news media overnight include a roof blown off of Hall Industries on Second Street and glass blown out in the front of New Dimension Comics.

Also in Franklin Township, a toppled tree and down utility wires have forced a closure of Route 288 according to the township fire department social media post.

The National Weather Service will be working Wednesday to confirm if a tornado touched down overnight near Tarentum in northeast Allegheny County.

According to NWS Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh International Airport measured a 75mph wind gust at 1:06 am as the severe thunderstorms moved over the region. This is the highest thunderstorm wind gust at the airport ever.
