(Ellwood City) Katherine Bowser and Kristina Hogue, seniors at Lincoln and Riverside high schools, respectively, have been selected to receive $500 scholarships from the Ellwood City Hungarian Home.
Bowser, a daughter of Kevin and Jennifer Bowser of Ellwood City, plans to attend the Pennsylvania State University this fall and major in environmental engineering.
Hogue, a daughter of Jim and Mary Hogue of New Brighton, also plans to attend the Pennsylvania State University and major in journalism/communications.
Bowser and Hogue were selected by Hungarian Home Scholarship Committee members George Bokor, Bill Baker, Jim Hrabosky, Patty Takacs and Don Melfi, and were honored at a luncheon July 14.
Scholarship recipients were selected based on their academic achievement, work ethic, volunteerism, and school activities.
The Ellwood City Hungarian Home plans to continue the scholarship program. The scholarship next year will be renamed in honor of a longtime officer of the organization, John Takacs.
