Riverside Superintendent Set To Step Down

Riverside’s current superintendent, Dr. Dave Anney, will be serving his last day on June 28th. This announcement was made during Riverside’s school board meeting on Monday, April 15.

“The best part of being an administrator is when you have the chance to help someone in some way and then you eventually see them turn into productive and responsible adults,” said Dr. Anney.

Anney has been a part of the Riverside community for 32 years. He built his career from being smaller things like a high school math teacher, an assistant principal, and a middle principal to serving five years as an assistant superintendent and finally spending the last 11 years as Riverside superintendent, through all this, he had won Teacher of The Year 6 times during his teaching career.

“I have many great memories, many of which happened while I was a teacher,” Dr. Anney said. “I was lucky to interact with so many great kids, teachers, and support staff.”

He had come to Riverside through student teaching. At the time, he was a student teacher at Freedom when he was recommended to the Riverside principal when there was a vacancy in the math department, the rest is history.

“When Dr. Anney was my principal, I couldn’t wait to go to work every day. He truly made our time a wonderful experience. He consistently gave us his support,” said one of the teachers who had been among the first few Dr. Anney had hired. “Any decision we made, we always knew he trusted our professionalism, and he genuinely had our backs. Actually, we worked much harder for him because of the high set of standards that he brought to work with him every day. We didn’t want to disappoint him.”

Once Dr. Anney says his goodbyes, current assistant superintendent Bret Trotta will proceed to take over. Trotta has worked at Riverside for 16 years, serving the last 11 as assistant superintendent.

“I am proud that I was able to spend my entire career at Riverside in many different positions. Every time I changed positions I got to see a different side of Riverside and it reinforced how many good things occur every day,” said Dr. Anney.  “Riverside is a special place with caring professionals, helpful support staff and the greatest kids.”
