Bernice J. Platt, 84, of New Middletown, Oh. formerly of North Sewickley Twp. passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Boardman.
Born Dec. 22, 1930 in Rochester, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Dolly T. West Shuster.
She was married for 66 years to Carl D. Platt who survives.
Bernice was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Ellwood and a current member of the First Baptist Church in Beaver Falls. She was very active in summer Bible School Programs for numerous churches in the area. She was instrumental in starting the hot lunches in the Hillcrest Elementary School She also organized and founded the PTA at Riverside Middle School. Bernice was also active in the North Sewickley Twp. Women’s Club and was a former scout leader.
In addition to her husband, Carl, survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Patrick of Harmony, Deborah VanDoren of Virginia; son, David (Donna) Platt of New Middletown, Oh.; ten grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two son in laws, James Patrick and Emory VanDoren.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday Dec. 14 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home 200 Fountain Ave. Ellwood City. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Steven D. Brotzman officiating. Interment will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
