Joan C. Lees, 84, of Hermitage passed away Monday, May 14, 2018 at Shenango on the Green in New Wilmington following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 3, 1933 in New Castle, the daughter of the late John N. and Elizabeth Reno Cornelius.
Joan graduated from New Castle High School and later from Grove City College. It was while attending Grove City that she met the love of her life, Robert E. Lees, to whom she was married for 61 years. He survives.
She was a Junior High school teacher in the New Castle School District where she retired after more than 30 years. She was a former member of the Clen Moore Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling, especially in England and Scotland. Her most cherished times were spent with Bob and their family, close friends, and their beloved terriers over the years.
In addition to her husband, Bob, survivors include a sister in law, Jane Cornelius of Boardman, OH and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wayne Cornelius.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm at the McGonigle Funeral Home, 1090 E. State St.,Sharon. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
