Unusually Warm Thanksgiving Increases Gobbler’s Gallop Turnout

There’s nothing like a good early morning run to work up a turkey appetite.

For twenty years, the Gobbler’s Gallop, held at Riverside schools, has made people earn their turkey with a vigorous and usually cold race. This year, winter has been a little late and a higher than average number of runners signed up, taking advantage of the warm and sunny day.

A total of 364 runners competed, 251 in the 5k and 113 in the 10k. Lincoln High School junior Billy Lott was the champion of the day, winning the 10k and placing second in the 5k. Lott runs in both cross country and track and earlier this month placed 91st in the cross country PIAA state class AA championship at Hershey Park. Lott won the Gallop 10k with a time of 35 minutes, 29.8 seconds and finished the 5k in 17:15.9.

Joseph Franz, 22, of Pittsburgh, won the 5k with a time of 17:09.0.

Leslie Kramer, 38, was the top female finisher in the 10k with a time of 42:34.4. Alyssa Campbell, 15, of New Brighton was the top female finisher in the 5k with a time of 20:50.0.
