Frederick P. Curry, 82, of New Beaver Boro passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the UPMC – Jameson Hospital following a short illness.
A lifelong resident, Fred was born September 12, 1935 in Wampum to the late William and Ellen Wardman Curry. He was married for 60 years to Martha Rorabaugh Curry who survives.
Fred graduated from Mount Jackson High School. He was a Sergeant in the US Army and a member of the Wampum American Legion. Fred retired from Medusa – Southdown Cement Company where he was a machine operator. He was a former Chief and the last remaining Charter Member of the New Beaver Boro Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the Lawrence County Fire Chief’s Association and a member of the West Pittsburg United Methodist Church. Fred was active with the former Wampum Baseball Association, serving as a coach and the commissioner for many years.
In addition to his wife, Martha, survivors include three sons, Paul (Sandy) Curry of New Castle, Doug “Bunger” (Sue) Curry of Wampum, Glen (Lisa) Curry of Hopewell Twp.; sister, Sara (William) Hardy of North Beaver; two brothers, Levis Curry of Ellwood City, James (Connie) Pulliam of Chatsworth, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Jarrett (Tia) Curry, Kylie (Ed ) Sheridan, Richard (Kristin) Curry, Griffin and Sean Curry ; four great grandchildren, Everrett, Izabella, Brady, and Mackenzie.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Curry.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday September 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Friends will also be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 am. Rev. Todd Davis will officiate. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
