Edwin Dewayne Armstrong, 84, of Edwards Rd., New Beaver Boro passed away Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Ellwood City Hospital following an extended illness.
Born June 12, 1933 in Boyer, Butler County, he was the son of the late Edwin P. and Mary A Deal Armstrong. He was married for 55 years to Betty L. Hackett Armstrong who passed away September 21, 2013.
Dewayne retired as a Master Sergeant (E8) following 21 years of service with the Armed Forces. He spent 4 years with the Air Force and 17 with the Army , 10 of which were with Special Forces Green Berets. He received numerous medals, including the Bronze Star for Valor, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, CIB and EIB Master Jump Wings and the Vietnam Jump Wings. He was a member of the American Legion Post 749 in Wampum and the New Galilee VFW. He was a former member of the Kelly Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.
Survivors include a son, Bruce W. (Joan) Armstrong of Darlington; daughter, Wanda S. Allen of Koppel ;daughter in law, Lisa Armstrong of New Galilee; three brothers, William (Lucy) Armstrong of Altas, Oklahoma, Glenn Leroy Armstrong of Beaver Falls, Kenneth (Debbie) Armstrong of Wampum; sister in law, Barbara Armstrong of Newport News, Virginia; 3 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, ; 5 great grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Brian and Glenn Armstrong; two brothers, Plummer L. and Arnold Armstrong; and three sisters, Charlotte Nulph, Betty Moss, and Mary A Armstrong.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday July 31, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main Street Wampum. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 am with Rev. Keith R. Black officiating. Full Military Rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Clinton Cemetery.
