Joseph F. Butera Jr., 77, of HIckory Twp., New Castle, formerly of Wampum, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at UPMC – Greenville Hospital following an extended illness.
Born August 30, 1939 in West Pittsburg, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Butera Sr. and Margaret Woods Butera of West Pittsburg. He was married for 57 years to Anna Louise Pacielle Butera who survives.
Joe retired from B & W Steel Co. after 29 years of service. He then worked at Koppel Steel until 1998. Joe graduated from New Castle High School and served in the US Army Reserves for 8 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting, and fishing. He cherished family vacations and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Anna, and mother, Margaret, survivors include a son, Michael A. (Vonnie) Butera of Cranberry Twp.; three sisters, JoAnn (John) Marquez of California, Linda (Vincent) Hill of Oregon, Susan Scharf of Ellwood City; brother, Ronald Butera of New Castle; 5 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and siblings; Samuel, James, and Nancy Butera.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday June 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 am with Rev. Father Zachary Galiyas officiating. Military rites will be offered by the Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Clinton Cemetery.
