Riverside junior point guard Sydney Wolf scored a game high 18 points for the Lady Panthers as they secured a first round victory its WPIAL Playoff action Wednesday night in Peters Township.
The Panthers pulled away from what became a close game to gain a 47-39 victory over Brownsville. The Panthers led by double digits at halftime but had to hold on what became a four point game at the end of the third quarter.
Bekah Bettencourt connected on three 3-points for Riverside to finish with nine points while her sister Lauren chipped in with 8 points for the victorious Lady Panthers.
Riverside improves to 18-5 and will face the #1 seed Bishop Canevin (16-5 overall), who was awarded a first round bye, in the 3A Quarterfinals on Saturday at a site yet to be determined.
For the Riverside boys (16-7 overall), their second round matchup is schedule for Thursday evening action against #3 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (18-5 overall). The game is schedule for an 8:00pm tip and to be played at Sewickley Academy. The winner will advance to the WPIAL Class 3-A Semifinal to play either Aliquippa or Washington.
Washington had handily beat Ellwood City in its first round game while Riverside is coming off a 65-42 opening round victory over Burgettstown last week.
