New Years Public Drunkenness
According to the police report, Ellwood officers were requested by the Wampum Police to assist with a publicly drunk female on Jan. 1, 2017. By the time the officers had arrived the Wampum Police had Jody Vankirk, 41, of New Castle, who was inappropriately dressed, detained. Vankirk was being “extremely out of control and intoxicated” while at the station. After she was released officers were called again in regards to the woman damaging items at a friends house and throwing things into the street. Vankirk is being cited with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
DUI
Nicholas George Shuits, 26, of Freedom, is facing charges of DUI after an incident that occurred on Dec. 31. According to the police report, officers observed a white Jaguar with extremely tinted windows traveling the wrong direction on Beaver Ave., then making a left onto Sixth St., down the wrong direction. The car was swerving, disobeying traffic signals, and almost causing a wreck twice. The officer made contact with the driver and owner of the car, who had stated he had one drink that night. The officer performed several sobriety tests on Shuits, all of which he failed. The defendant refused to a blood test due to “not wanting certain things to be found in his blood.”
Stolen Vehicle
According to the police report, on Dec. 30, a resident of Division Ave. reported her 2005 Acura TSX had been stolen from outside the residence. The victim stated the car was not repossessed because she had always made her payments on the vehicle, and she also said that the car keys were missing from inside her house although there were no signs of forced entry. The victim estimates the car’s value at $5,000. Further investigation.
Domestic Dispute
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to Wayne Ave., in regards to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife. Travis Bates, 25, of Ellwood and his wife had gotten into an altercation after Bates supposedly harshly disciplined their six year old son. Bates’s wife stepped between her husband and the child which prompted Bates to physically assault her. The victim claims she had been struck by Bates with a closed fist several times and after their nine year old son had tried to pull Bates off of the victim but did not succeed, Bates picked up a glass object and hit the victim in the head with it. Officers observed physical marks on the victim and she was taken to the hospital for treatment. Bates is facing charges of simple assault and harassment.

New Years public drunkenness. Girlfriend of a Boots and now he is in jail. That whole trailer in Ferndale needs evicted to the nearest jail. Boots,Pounds,and Patterson’s nothing but criminals getting away with to much. Cops need to arrest the bunch. Ellwood City and surrounding townships would be a better place.
