James G. Santis, 90, of Frederick, Maryland, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away peacefully with his family at his side after a brief illness on Wednesday evening, December 21, 2016 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick MD.
He was born in Ellwood City, on February 8, 1926 to the late Dimitrios and Vasiliki Santis.
James proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning his High School GED while in service. He graduated from Robert Morris College and led an adventurous life: planning, seeing, doing, and building many great things, usually for the enjoyment of others. Jim owned the Shelby Bar in Ellwood City for many years. He worked at Rockwell International in New Castle, until his retirement.
He attended Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ellwood City.
He is now reunited in death with his adored wife Mary Lengel Santis, who died February 17, 1984 and his loving sister Alice Brandes.
He is survived by another loving sister, Fanny Ottaviani and her husband Frank of Ellwood City; his son and daughter-in-law, Lon D. Santis and Mara L. O’Callaghan-Santis of Frederick MD, and three grandchildren: Alexa, Garrett and Jake.
Friends will be received from 6:00- 8:00 PM on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 in the TURNER FUNERAL HOME, 500 6th Street, Ellwood City.
Services will be conducted at TURNERS at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 with the Rev. Elizabeth Wallace of Christ Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, North Sewickley. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard at TURNERS.
The Honor Guard is asked to meet at TURNERS at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday.
