With the approaching winter storm, the Borough of Ellwood City would like to reach out to all residents and provide some safety information.
- This is going to be a prolonged storm with snow starting to fall Saturday night and the heaviest amount of snow falling between 7am and 7pm on Sunday.
- The air is going to be a bitter cold without the wind chills. Temps with the wind chills will be between -10 and -15 degrees. Dress in layers if you need to be outside.
- Avoid driving on Sunday if at all possible. Please help the borough by parking vehicles in driveways, garages or off the street WHEN POSSIBLE. We understand that some residents have no other choice but to park on the street. We ask this just so it will make it easier for the Public Works to plow the streets during this event.
- Please be sure to check all vents outside of your house, as the snow piles up and the vents become snow covered, this may cause for serious issues inside your home.
- In the event of a widespread power outage, the school district will open the gymnasium as a warming center. This center will open approx. an hour after the power is disrupted. There will also be a center in the upstairs room at the fire station and some of the local churches if needed. Perry Township, Franklin Township, Wayne Township and Chewton Fire Departments will all be open also throughout the storm.
- Please assist the borough, when possible, by keeping fire hydrants in your area clear. This is a big help to emergency services and can truly save lives.
- Please check on your elderly or disabled neighbors during this event. Be sure they have what they need and assist where you can.
