Bernstine to Run for Re-Election to PA House of Representatives in 2026

NEW GALILEE — Citing the growing threat posed by the radical left agenda being pushed by Democrats in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and Governor Josh Shapiro, State Representative Aaron Bernstine (R-Butler/Lawrence) today announced he is running for re-election in 2026, seeking another term representing the 8th Legislative District.

“With Democrats and Governor Shapiro doubling down on policies that undermine our freedoms, weaken public safety, and make life more expensive for working families, now is not the time to send timid lawmakers to Harrisburg,” Bernstine said. “We need proven conservative fighters who are willing to stand in the line of fire and push back. From day one, I have taken on the radical left and even those in my own party who waver — and I’m running again to continue that fight on behalf of the people of Butler and Lawrence counties.”

Bernstine is one of the General Assembly’s most outspoken opponents of the progressive agenda. As a founding member of the Pennsylvania Freedom Caucus, he has consistently voted to rein in reckless government spending, oppose tax increases, defend constitutional liberties, protect children from ideological indoctrination, and stand up for families and small businesses.

Widely recognized as a the number one Second Amendment champion in the Pennsylvania House, Bernstine has led the fight to protect gun owners’ rights. He introduced and championed Constitutional Carry legislation, ensuring law-abiding citizens are not forced to ask government permission to exercise their constitutional rights. He has repeatedly blocked Democrat-led efforts to impose gun-grabbing schemes, including Red Flag laws and other proposals that punish responsible gun owners instead of criminals.

“Democrats and Governor Shapiro want to disarm law-abiding citizens while crime spirals out of control,” Bernstine said. “I will never stop fighting to protect the Second Amendment and the right of Pennsylvanians to defend themselves and their families.”

Bernstine has also been a leading voice for pro-family legislation, introducing and supporting measures to protect children from radical gender ideology and classroom indoctrination, safeguard and expand parental rights, and stop the sexualization of minors. He has consistently pushed back against attempts by the left to inject politics into schools and undermine traditional family values.

A staunch fiscal conservative, Bernstine has earned a reputation as one of Harrisburg’s toughest watchdogs against wasteful spending. He has refused special pension perks, voted against bloated state budgets, fought tax and fee increases, and supported strict constitutional spending limits to make life more affordable for Pennsylvania families. His record includes successfully eliminating the state’s asset tax and opposing budget gimmicks that saddle future generations with debt and higher taxes.

“The costs of living continue to strain hard-working Pennsylvania taxpayers,” Bernstine said. “While both parties continue to exacerbate the problem, I remain committed to voting against bloated budgets, exposing the games, and fighting for affordability.”

Bernstine has also championed legislation to keep violent criminals behind bars, strengthen public safety, address Pennsylvania’s workforce shortages, ban drag shows in public spaces accessible to minors, and prohibit taxpayer-funded lobbying. He remains a strong advocate for election integrity and voter ID requirements.

Currently serving House District 8, Bernstine represents parts of Butler and Lawrence counties. He is a small business owner and farmer who resides in New Galilee with his wife, Ilia, and their three children.

The 8th District includes the following municipalities:

Butler County: the townships of Brady, Center, Clay, Connoquenessing, Forward, Franklin, Lancaster, Middlesex, Muddycreek, Penn, and Worth; and the boroughs of Connoquenessing, Portersville, Prospect, West Liberty, and West Sunbury.

Lawrence County: the townships of Little Beaver, Perry, Plain Grove, Scott, Slippery Rock, Washington, and Wayne; and the boroughs of Ellport, Ellwood City (Lawrence County portion), Enon Valley, New Beaver, Volant, and Wampum.
