ROUNDBALL: Local Teams Tip Off Regular Season

The 1-2 punch of Kaleb Servick and Aaron Lake brought home two victories for the Wolverines boys basketball team and earned each MVP recognition in the Ellwood City Tip-Off Classic over the holiday weekend.

The duo combined for 45 points on Friday as Ellwood City routed Rochester 81-39. Servick scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half and finished 10-12 shooting. Lake earned a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Servick led all scorers on Saturday with 24 points as the Wolverines defeated Union 51-31. Lake finished with 13 points and hauled in 18 rebounds. Maykel Cuevas knocked home two 3-pointers and joined in double figures with 11 points for Ellwood City. The boys trailed 23-17 at halftime before a decisive 34-8 burst in the second half wrapped up the victory.

The Lady Wolverines lost 51-18 to Lincoln Park and Friday and were defeated 42-24 by Western Beaver on Saturday.

For Riverside, Logan Young and Cole Beeker led the offensive charges in the Panthers two victories.

The Riverside boys basketball team defeated Perry 55-29 on Friday night behind a game-high 20 points from Young. Beeker checked in Saturday with 25 points and Young added 17 points as the Panthers routed Sharpsville 69-38 to open up its regular season 2-0.

Emma Meyer scored a game-high 15 points for the Lady Panthers as they knocked off New Castle 54-23 on Saturday. Meyer led the scoring charge on Friday with 15 points but Riverside was knocked off 46-36 by Union. Addison Drake finished with 10 points in defeat.
