The Riverside Girls Soccer Team (8-3-1) captured the Section 1-A crown and earned a #4 seed in the 2025 Class-A Girls soccer WPIAL Playoffs.
The Lady Panthers will begin their playoffs on Tuesday, October 21st against Riverview High School at Central Valley High school at 6:00 p.m.
Class-A top seed Sewickley Academy rolled to a perfect 15-1 record in Section 3 while defending Class-A champion and 5-seed Springdale finished 10-1-1 in Section 4.
With a victory Tuesday, Riverside would advance to play the winner of #4 Springdale/#13 Chartiers-Houston on Saturday, October 25th at a stie and time TBD.
The WPIAL Class-A finals will be played at Highmark Stadium on November 1st
With a win on senior night last Thursday, the Riverside Girls Volleyball Team collected a share of their section championship. This is the volleyball team’s first section championship in school history and earns the team a #6 seed in the Class 2A WPIAL Playoffs.
This is also the first year the team is making the WPIAL Playoffs, representing one of four teams from Section 4-2A.
“Our goal this season was to make our name known in the volleyball community,” says head coach Justin Bennett. “We achieved that last week with our first section title and playoff appearance. I keep reminding the girls that we can accomplish anything if we play volleyball the Riverside way.”
The Lady Panthers (11-3 Overall, 9-3 Section 4-2A) will play Avonworth High School at OLSH High School on Tuesday, October 21st at 6:00 p.m.
Top overall seed Hopewell (15-1 Overall, 13-0 Section 1-2A) is a favorite to make it back to the WPIAL Class 2A championship match with a chance to avenge its loss to Quaker Valley in 2024.
Four preliminary round matches will take place Monday evening to open up the playoffs.
With a victory on Tuesday, Riverside would advance to play a quarterfinals match-up on Thursday, October 23rd.
