A week after a crushing last second loss to Neshannock, Ellwood City flipped the script and earned its last second victory over Mohawk.
Tyler Amicone hauled in a 41-yard touchdown pass with 9.3 seconds remaining to erase the Wolverines single point deficit.
The Wolverines marched down the field in less than three minutes and with no timeouts to secure the comeback conference victory.
The teams exchanged touchdowns in the first half but three consecutive field goals by Mohawk kicker Andrew Lloyd (26-yards, 28 and 22) put the host Warriors ahead 15-14.
Cameron Mill scooped up a fumble and scampered in for a 14-yard defensive touchdown to open the scoring for Ellwood City.
A 28-yard touchdown strike from Mohawk quarterback Bobby Faddon to Joe Nail got the Warriors on board and trailing 7-6 after one quarter.
Less than a minute in to the second quarter Dom Hogue hauled in a 28-yard touchdown strike from Tyler Smiley to stretch the Wolverines advantage to 14-6 before the Warriors rallied with field goals.
Offensively, Ellwood City was limited on the ground game, gaining just 46 yards on 20 carries as a team. They found success in the air attack as Smiley posted two long touchdown passes on his way to a 109-yard passing performance.
Dom Hogue led the receiving corps with five catches for 54 yards and a score.
Ellwood City was held to only eight first downs and 131 yards of total offense in the victory but in the defensive-minded contest, held Mohawk (1-3 Overall) to only 207 of total offense.
Drake Davis had a huge showing defensively for the Wolverines. Davis collected two sacks and forced the games only fumbled that resulted in Ellwood City’s first score.
Dom Dinucci picked off a pass while Deklan O’Brien collected a game-high eight tackles.
Ellwood City improves to 2-2 on the season and will next host Freedom on Friday night at Helling Stadium.
