In a statement released by the Ellwood City Area School District on Thursday, the district is clear in acknowledging the transition to ABC Transit has had some early growing pains.
The district contracted with ABC Transit for seven years beginning with the 2025-26 school year, effective July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2032, replacing EC Transit, which wished to end the school transportation side of its business.
“We are grateful for the dedication and care shown by Ellwood City Transit, and we are confident that ABC Transit will carry forward that tradition with professionalism and care,” said Superintendent Amy Anderson in a statement in July. “ABC Transit shares our commitment to safety, reliability, and student well-being, and we look forward to working together to ensure a seamless transition.”
Ellwood City Area School District’s first day for students was Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Full statement from September 5, 2025:
Dear Ellwood City Area School District Families,
We wanted to reach out in partnership with ABC Transit to give you an update on our transportation. We want to acknowledge up front that the transition has had some growing pains, and we know this has created challenges for students and families.
We thank you for your flexibility and patience!
Please know that district administration and ABC Transit have been meeting daily to review what went well, identify where improvements are needed, and make changes for the next day. While we anticipate there may continue to be some bumps in the road as this partnership settles in, we are confident that things will steadily improve as routes stabilize and routines become established.
To keep you informed, if we are notified that a bus will be 15 minutes or more late, we will send an update through Alma. We recognize how important consistent pick-up and drop-off times are, and we are working closely with ABC Transit to ensure schedules are followed and families can plan with confidence.
Yesterday, one of our buses was involved in a minor accident where a parked car’s mirror was clipped. An administrator and nurse immediately responded to the scene to check on students. Thankfully, no one was injured.
We apologize for the stress and inconvenience these early challenges have caused. Our students’ safety and your trust are our top priorities. Each day, we expect transportation to get a little better, we are working on correcting concerns, and we are setting the goal of having routes and times stabilized by the end of next week.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and partnership as we work to
strengthen this new system.Amy Anderson
Superintendent
Ellwood City Area School District
