On Saturday, June 28, Ewing Park will be the site of the inaugural Renee’s Run & Walk, a 5K event dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of Renee Lynn Giles, a cherished member of the Ellwood City community who passed away from uterine sarcoma in 2024.
Renee was known for her unwavering support of the Riverside baseball program, her dedication to volunteer work, and her vibrant spirit that touched everyone she met. Her commitment to kindness, generosity, and team spirit left an indelible mark on those around her. The event will raise money for the Renee Giles Memorial Scholarship Program, awarded annually to a Riverside senior student-athlete who exemplifies Renee’s values.

“Renee is honored in this annual scholarship sponsored by Riverside Sports Hall of Fame,” said Lindsay Koach, who was one of Renee’s dear friends. “We select student athletes who showcase the characteristics of a servant leader; much like Renee was. She left a legacy of giving to her community and loved ones.”
The event, which was the idea of Renee’s sister Melissa Jacob, is organized by the Riverside Sports Hall of Fame and aims to raise awareness for uterine cancer during Uterine Cancer Awareness Month.
As the event brings awareness to uterine cancer, it also is meant to honor Renee.
“Our best memories are of Renee living life out loud,” said Koach. “She went big on everything, and wanted the best for all of our baseball kids. She was vice president of Riverside Baseball Federation and very active in raising money there for the kids, as well as doing fundraisers for the varsity baseball team.”
