The prestigious Golden Gloves of America boxing tournament made its mark once again, this time electrifying the crowd at the Steamfitters Hall in Harmony, Pennsylvania.
The event brought together some of the most promising young amateur boxers from across the state, delivering a night full of skill, heart, and raw talent. Among the standout performances, Ellwood City Police Boxing Club athletes emerged as a powerhouse, producing five Golden Gloves champions and showcasing the town’s deep well of boxing potential.
One of the Ellwood City Police Boxing Club Coaches Jack Main said he is thrilled with the results.
“This is a great accomplishment for any gym anymore,” Main said. “It’s kinda rare. Probably as good as any gym in Pittsburgh or better.”
The Ellwood City Police Department Boxing Club packs a one-two punch. One, they mentor area youth and two, they provide an outlet for fitness.

Located in the basement of the borough building, the gym has a ring, punching bags, and nostalgic newspaper clippings and posters papering the walls and telling a rich and interesting story of the organization’s history.
Leading the charge for Ellwood City at the Golden Gloves was 10-year-old Paul Agnew, who captivated the crowd with a performance far beyond his years. Despite his age, his dominant showing earned him a well-deserved title and high praise from spectators and coaches alike.
Joining him on the list of champions were David Fiello and Aiden Bollinger, both 17, who each fought with a mix of strategic precision and relentless determination. Their victories not only secured them the Golden Gloves titles in their respective divisions but also solidified their reputations as two of the most promising young fighters in the region.
The Bollinger name was well represented, with Connor (15) and Carter (16) also claiming championship titles. The pair showcased exceptional teamwork in preparation and shared a clear sense of discipline and drive. Their family’s strong boxing tradition was evident in every punch, block, and counter.
Ellwood City also had Mason Johnston and Maddox Smith in the lineup, and although they did not win, they put in strong efforts.
Held in the heart of Harmony, the Steamfitters Hall provided an electric atmosphere for this celebrated event. The success of Ellwood City’s fighters reflects not only individual dedication but also the strength of the local boxing programs and community support. These five champions have put their hometown on the map, and their achievements at the Golden Gloves serve as both an inspiration and a challenge to young athletes across the state.
As the Golden Gloves of America continues its mission of promoting amateur boxing and fostering young talent, stories like those from Ellwood City remind us of the heart and determination it takes to become a champion — even at just 10 years old.
