Wolverines Baseball, Softball Teams Each Collect 10-Run Victories

Ellwood City baseball and softball teams each cruised to 10-run victories on Thursday. Ellwood City baseball defeated Shenango on the road 16-6 while the softball team took care of Quaker Valley 13-3 at home.

For the Wolverines baseball team, an offensive onslaught produced 20 hits in the victory. Aaron Lake (3-4, 3 runs, 5 RBIs) led the charge with three extra base hits including a grand slam homerun in the fourth inning. Jacob Biskop (3-5, 3 runs) tripled and Jordan Keller (2-5, 3 RBIs) doubled while Will Nardond (3-4, 1 run, 1 RBI) and Gino Biondi (3-5, 1 run, 2 RBIs, 2 SB) joined the hit parade.

Every started collected a hit for Ellwood City.

Shenango scored two runs in the second inning to open up the scoring but Ellwood City responded with four runs in the third and fourth innings to start the onslaught. A seven run 7th inning put the game to rest for Ellwood City.

Nate Kennedy earned the victory for Ellwood City, striking out six batters across 4.2/3 innings. Owen Andrews finished off the victory with 2.1/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Ellwood City improves to 14-4 Overall (8-2 Section 1-3A) will wrap up its regular season with a non-section contest on the road Monday at Montour.

The Lady Wolverines used a six run 6th inning surge to pull away from Quaker Valley on Thursday.

Ellwood City led 4-0 after two innings before the Quakers rallied with three runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Wolverines quickly responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning and three more runs in the sixth inning to enduce the mercy rule.

Amber McQuistion pounded two doubles, collected two walks, and knocked in two runs to lead the offense. McQuistion also tossed six innings in the pitching circle, striking out eight and walking four batters.

Crystal Folino led Ellwood City with three hits while Lucarelli added a triple. Sara Schwarz scored three runs and was among a host of Wolverines with two hits offensively, joining Lena Lucarelli, Folino, Alexis Beck, McQuistion, and Kaylee Palombi with two or more hits.

Ellwood City improves to 10-6 Overall (7-3 Section 2-3A) and will stay at home to face New Castle next Tuesday before wrapping up its regular season on the road against Hickory on Wednesday, May 7th.
