Covert Medalist For First Time At BC3 As Pioneer Golfers Win By 3-stroke Margin

Covert shot a 5-over 77 to finish as medalist for the first time at BC3

Butler County Community College golfer Mitchell Covert on Tuesday won medalist honor for the first time as a Pioneer as BC3 edged Hocking Community College, Nelsonville, Ohio, by three strokes and topped three other squads at Lake Arthur Golf Club to move to 5-0 this spring.

Covert cut six strokes off his spring-season opening score April 17 at Lake Arthur Golf Club to finish Tuesday with a 5-over 77 in BC3’s 331-334 victory over Hocking Community College.

The Pioneers on Tuesday also defeated Pennsylvania Highlands Community College, Johnstown; Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood; and the Community College of Allegheny County.

Will Dempsey, Community College of Allegheny County, placed second with a 79 and Landen Bray, Hocking Community College, third with an 80.

BC3’s Xander Downing, medalist in BC3’s spring-season opening victory against Jamestown (N.Y.) Community College, finished fourth Tuesday with an 81; Aiden Duffy, Westmoreland County Community College, fifth with an 82; the Pioneers’ Jaxon Salata, sixth with an 83 and Parker Worsley, seventh with a 90.

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College’s Jayvin Brumbaugh was eighth with a 93 and BC3’s Noah Ritchie, ninth with a 97.

Covert is a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City; and Downing, Salata, Worsley and Ritchie, of Butler Senior High.

BC3 will visit Westmoreland County Community College at the par-70 Glengarry Golf Links, Latrobe, on April 25. Pennsylvania Highlands Community College and the Community College of Allegheny County will also compete in the match.
