Ellwood City Softball/Tennis Sweeps Beaver Falls; Baseball Beats QV

In a clean sweep on Monday, the Ellwood City softball and tennis teams each collected victories over the Beaver Falls Tigers while the Wolverines baseball squad knocked off Quaker Valley.

The Lady Wolverines softball team easily dispatched the visiting Tigers 12-1 at Stiefel Park in five innings.

Amber McQuistion struck out 10 Tigers and did not allow an earned run across five innings for her victory. The starter allowed only four hits and one walk.

Rylee Prestopine and Crystal Folino each collected two hits and two RBIs offensively for Ellwood City. Prestopine collected a triple while Folino and Alexis Beck each doubled as the Wolverines collectively posted eight hits in the mercy-rule victory.

Ellwood City (5-4 Overall) next travels to Hopewell Tuesday afternoon.

The Ellwood City boys tennis team defeated Beaver Falls 5-0 on Monday afternoon.

Ayden Frisk (6-1, 6-2), Porter Nash (6-0, 6-2), and Quinn Smith (6-1, 6-1) each collected singles victories in straight sets for the Wolverines while the pair of Ellwood City doubles partners also earned victories.

Chase Ramsey and Devin Thompson (6-0, 6-1) and Dominic DiBuono and Isaac Smith (6-0, 6-0) rounded out the sweep for the Wolverines.

Ellwood City, who wrapped up its regular season with a 2-4 record, next competes in the section doubles.

After a rocky first inning, the Ellwood City baseball team responded to earn a 8-2 victory over Quaker Valley at Sanders Field in Ewing Park.

The visiting Quakers posted two unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but Ellwood City quickly responded with three runs in the bottom half, adding one more in the second inning, and then four more runs in the third inning to run away with the section victory.

Aaron Lake and Owen Andrews allowed only two hits and no earned runs over their combined seven innings on the mound for Ellwood City.

Jordan Keller reached base in all four plate appearances (2-2, two walks) and stole two bases to lead the offense.  Cameron Mills and Maykel Cuevas each collected doubles, with Cueavas collecting a team-high three RBIs for the Wolverines.

Ellwood City (8-3 Overall) next will travel to Quaker Valley on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
