Aaron Lake posted a double-double Monday evening to lead Ellwood City to a 60-57 victory over Southmoreland in WPIAL Consolation action.
The victory advances the Wolverines (15-10 Overall) to the WPIAL Class 3A Fifth-Place game against Shady Side Academy on Wednesday.
After suffering a 77-34 setback against #2 South Allegheny in the quarterfinals on Friday, the Wolverines rebounded for the road victory Monday.
Lake scored 10 points in each of the halves en route to his 20-point effort. Lake added 10 rebounds and four steals.
Maykel Cuevas collected four 3-pointers – one in each quarter – and 16 points for Ellwood City. The Wolverines scored 17 points in each of the first three quarters of action, leading 51-45 entering the final quarter.
Lake was the lone Wolverine in double-figures (12 points) Friday night as Ellwood City stumbled early, falling behind 12-2 after the first period of play against the higher-seeded Gladiators. Drew Cook scored a game-high 27 points for South Allegheny who advanced and will face Mohawk Warriors in the Class-3A semifinals Tuesday night.
