Wolverines Rout Sto-Rox, Jones Hits 1,000 Career Points

Kayla Jones poured in 15 first half points to lead Ellwood City to a comfortable 74-39 victory over Sto-Rox Thursday night at Lincoln High School.

The scoring performance helped Jones top 1,000 career points.

The senior guard finished 5-10 shooting with one 3-pointer, two rebounds, and three assists Thursday in the non-section contest.

The Wolverines pounced early, scoring 30 first quarter points with Jones accounting for eight points and Delaney Sturgeon adding 12 points.

Sturgeon finished with a game-high 21 points (10 rebounds, six steals) for Ellwood City. Caitlin Kreitzer added 20 points (six assists, six steals) for the Wolverines.

Ellwood City led 47-16 at halftime. Eight Wolverines scored in the victory with Jadyn Allwine, Krya Condell, and Carah Kreitzer getting 4th quarter bucks.

The Wolverines (11-7 Overall, 7-5 Section 3A-1) are on a three game winning streak that that comes on the heels of a three game losting streak in the middle of January. Ellwood City next faces Eden Christian Academy at Sewickley Academy HS on Saturday 2/1 at 3:00 p.m.

Senior night for both Ellwood City girls and boys basketball teams will be Tuesday, February 4th with the girls game at 6:00 p.m. and boys game at 7:30 p.m. Both teams will host Beaver Falls.
