Jackson Kerr scored a career high 21 points to lead Ellwood City to its Riv-Ell Cup victory over Riverside Tuesday night.
The Wolverines raced out ahead early and poured in eight three pointers in the contest as they cruised to the 84-59 victory.
Ellwood City led 18-6 after the first frame powered by scoring contributions by four starters.
In the second quarter, guard Kaleb Servick knocked home two 3-pointers as part of a Ellwood City’s 23 point barrage. The Wolverines 41-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter Kerr came to life, knocking home a 3-pointers and added 12 points in the frame. Mikel Cuevas helped round out the victory with 11 points in the 4th quarter.
Kerr finished 6-8 shooting from the field with two 3-pointers. He added five rebounds and finished 3-5 from the free throw line. Servick finished with 19 points (7 rebounds, 5 assists) for the second consecutive game. Chris Smiley finished with 12 points and seven assists for Ellwood City.
The Wolverines finished 18-25 from the free throw line as a team and its 84-point output is the highest of the season.
Will Sullivan scored 18 second half points for Riverside en route to his game-high 23 point effort. Drake Fox joined Sullivan in double figures with 18 points in defeat.
Ellwood City clinched a playoff berth with its victory and is now 10-6 (6-2 Section 1-3A) on the season with its next game Friday versus New Brighton (6:00 / 7:30 PM).
