Robert “Shack” H. Ewing, 86, of Ellwood City passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at home. He was the son of the late William C. And Elda (Booher) Ewing and was born February 12, 1938, in Ellwood City.
He is survived by his son; Robert Ewing and his wife Stephanie of Ellwood City, one daughter; Jodi (Ewing) Gurgiolo and her husband Daniel Gurgiolo of Edinburg, his four grandchildren; Brooke (Ewing) Kegel and her husband Christian, Beau Ewing, Marcus Gurgiolo and Rachel Gurgiolo and one great-grandson; Crew Cartwright Kegel, his sisters; Connie (Ewing) Ferranti and her husband of New Castle and Terri (Ewing) Ferguson of Jackson, Michigan.
He attended Ellwood City Lincoln High School and after school, he married the love of his life Lenore Rentz on May 1, 1965, and went to work for US Steel at their Ellwood City and Ambridge facilities as a crane operator and steel fabricator until they closed. Bob was quite handy, particularly as a carpenter, and helped build or remodel many area homes after retiring from the mill. He was a passionate outdoorsman and enjoyed trout fishing and bow hunting, especially traditional archery. He loved taking long walks in the woods in the early morning hours looking for deer and that perfect spot for a tree stand. He particularly loved hunting with his son, Bobby. He even taught himself how to shoot a recurve bow left-handed after needing right shoulder surgery. He was also a long time Steeler fan. He loved to garden and took great pride in his home’s appearance, but above all he loved spending time with his wife and family. He was a man of deep faith and started each day reading the bible. He lived by the motto “If you keep looking up, I will see you again someday”. He attended the Ellwood City Free Methodist Church and First Assembly of God church, in New Castle.
He is preceded in passing by his wife; of 59 years, Lenore (Rentz) Ewing, and brothers Ronnie Ewing and William Ewing and a sister, Carol Ewing.
Friends may call on the family from 1:00pm-4:00pm on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Turner-Hyde Funeral & Cremation Services in Ellwood City, with a Funeral Service immediately following at 4:00PM with Rev Steve DeSantis, officiating
The family would like to thank Doctor Julie Le, DO, for her palliative care and Three Rivers Hospice for their compassion and assistance during Bob’s final days.
Inurnment will be in Locust Grove Cemetery in Ellwood City.
