THEFT: According to a report, and on October 8th at approximately 4:11 a.m., William Russell, 56, of Mercer, agreed to pick up three prescription medications for a 71-year-old victim, totaling $1,471.95. Russell picked up the medications at Rite Aid in Ellwood City but never delivered them to the victim. Russell was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance by a person not registered. Russell was unable to be located and remains wanted on these charges and several other active warrants. He is known to frequent the City of New Castle. If anyone has information on…

Tammy S. Ritter, 63, of Ellport, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Born in Ellwood City on March 29, 1960, Tammy was the daughter of the late George and Matilda Seaburn Yhelka.  She is survived by her husband, Joseph E. Ritter whom she married on April 8, 1978.  She was a member of Divine Grace Parish, Holy Redeemer Church and a former member of its Christian Mothers.  She enjoyed playing bingo but mostly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Wolverines Knock Off Yough, Qualify For PIAA Playoffs

Joseph Roth and the Ellwood City Wolverines boys basketball have qualified for the PIAA State Playoffs after collecting a 40-37 victory over Yough on Wednesday in a 7th place WPIAL Class-3A consolation game. Roth scored 21 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, and sank two critical free throws with less than five seconds remaining in the contest. The senior now has 2,049 career points. Mr. James N. Higgins, 87, of Fombell passed away on Sunday, February 25th, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Higgins was born on November 10th, 1936 in Ellwood City to the late Earl and Dorothy (Skewis) Higgins. The annual Lawrence County Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 20th at Ewing Park, Ellwood City from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The planning committee is seeking vendors to sell environmentally friendly products. Al C. Kocher, 85, of Ellwood City passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Shenango On the Green after a brief illness. Born August 13, 1938 in Beaver Falls he was the son of the late Harry A. and Helen Groscost Kocher.
