Wolverines Surge In Second Half, Defeat Westmont 62-44 In PIAA Opening Round

Ellwood City used a second half surge to pull away and defeat District 6 Champion Westmont 62-44 in the opening round of the PIAA 3A Playoffs on Saturday. The Wolverines held the Hilltoppers to only 12 points in the second half and recovered from three point deficit in the process. Joseph Roth led all scorers with 31 points. Jared was born on August 13th, 1995 in Ellwood City, to Sean Meyers and Rebecca (Funk) Keefer. Jared graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 2014, where he was a respected athlete. Shirley Anne White, 77, of Shenango Township, passed away at Advent Health Fish Memorial in Orange City, Florida on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Born in New Castle on December 20, 1946, Shirley was the daughter of the late William and Twila Critchlow Phillips.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. White, Sr, on September 22, 2016.  They were married on May 18, 1964.  Shirley retired in 2010 from Advanced Feed Screws in New Castle where she was the office manager.  She was a member of the Castlewood Christian Missionary Alliance Church its Ladies Bible Study Group.  Shirley…


Open House & Ribbon Cutting Set For Perry School Construction Completion

The Ellwood City Area School District is pleased to announce that the construction at Perry Lower Intermediate School has been completed. “We are so excited to bring this project to a close and to allow our students to benefit from the updated learning spaces that are available to them,” said Dr. Wesley Shipley, Superintendent of Schools. The project included updating the electric and plumbing systems as well as installing new HVAC throughout the entire building. Erma C. Madden, affectionately known as “Cookie,” transitioned from this life on to rest as the Creator wills on March 1, 2024, in Solon, Ohio, at the age of 88. Born on March 8, 1935, in Wampum, PA, she was the daughter of the late Talmadge and Mary (Groom) Richardson. As the middle child among eight siblings, Cookie cherished her family deeply. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Eula, Wesley, Geraldine, Otis, Regina, and Raymond. Her brother Willie Richardson remains her sole surviving sibling. What is one of the world’s oldest known team sports? Nope, not football. Good guess, but baseball is not it. Everyone loves hockey, but that’s not the one. It’s Polo, a ball game that is played on horseback. Polo is a traditional field sport played by two opposing teams with the objective of scoring using a long-handled wooden mallet to hit a small hard ball through the opposing team’s goal. Red Barn Players Announce 2024 Show Line Up

The Red Barn Players have announced their 2024 season scheduled of shows. The theater performs a show in the months of June, July, August, and September and season tickets are available. Each Season Ticket for $63.00 and gives you (4) passes to be used in any combination during the 2024 performances. Spring brings longer days, more sunshine and warmer temperatures. The Ellwood City School District would also like to point out that warmer weather means more kids commuting via walking to and from school.
