Mrs. Mary E. DiFrischia, 83, of Chippewa Township, passed away on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. Mary was born on March 17th, 1941, to the late Roy and Margaret (Flynn) Armann. On May 16th, 1957, she married her husband, Joseph M. DiFrischia. Mary graduated from Pittsburgh Beauty Academy and shortly thereafter, opened her own hair salon in Chippewa Township, “Tangles and Tans Beauty Shop”. Ellwood City Historical Society: June Updates

This is 30th Anniversary of the History Center. The Steifel Building was bought in 1994… and became the home of the Ellwood City Area Historical Society. June is Membership Month for the Historical Society. The Society is offering a 18 month membership for the cost of a 12 month membership. Ellwood City Borough Council Announces 2024 Road Paving Project

Ellwood City Borough Manager Kevin Swogger said that residents can expect to see a lot of road construction this summer as part of the 2024 Road Paving Project during the June 17 Ellwood City Borough Council Meeting. He said that many of the projects are already underway. “The crews are working,” he said. “But completion of all projects will take a while.” He expects the projects to carry well into August. Butler County Community College is proud to announce the names of students who have made the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2024 semester, as well as the names of those who have graduated recently. Kenneth J. Nagel, 65

Kenneth J. Nagel, 65, of Ellwood City passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. Born February 11, 1959 in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Don Nagel and Shirley Crowl Nagel Cox of Beaver Falls. Kenneth graduated from Riverside in 1977 then from Penn State Behrend with High Honors and ultimately from YSU, where he earned his master’s degree in electrical engineering. He worked at Seco/Warwick Corporation in Meadville, taught at the New Castle School of Trades, and had retired from SPX Flow Technologies in Ocala FL….


ECASD Board of Directors Approve Budget, Eliminate Nepotism Policy

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors voted to approve the General Fund Budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year in the amount of $36,470,849 as well as the tax resolution setting the tax rates for the 2023-2024 fiscal year to include the ACT 679 $5 per capita tax, the ACT 511 $10 per capita tax (a shared tax by municipalities), property tax millage at 19.94 mills, Earned Income Tax at .5%, Realty Transfer Tax at .5% and the Occupational Privilege/Local Service Tax at $5.00 during the June 17 Regular Meeting. Jeanne Sokol, 81, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully on Monday, June 17th, 2024 at her residence. Jeanne was the daughter of the late Eugene and Anna (Gib) Cavallaro born in Ellwood City on May 25th, 1943. She is a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1961 and St. Elias Romanian Orthodox Church. She had lived in Detroit, MI for 15 years and moved back to Ellwood City in 1977. Victoria Marie Nairn, 75, of Beaver, PA passed away on Saturday, June 15th, 2024 at Quality Life New Castle. Victoria was born in Ellwood City on April 5th, 1949 to the late Felix and Gloria (Piccolo) Carrozza. She had graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1967 and attended Edinboro State College. 4th Beautification Award Winner of 2024 Announced

Mayor Anthony J. Court recently awarded the 4th winner of the annual beautification awards to Todd and Lori Streit of 924 Bridge Street. “Beautifully Landscaped and very well maintained,” said Mayor Court in an emailed statement. Todd and Lori was presented with a gift certificate from a local restaurant and a yard sign to display.
