Three Victories In WPIAL Opening Round Action

All three local teams competing Tuesday in the opening round of their respective WPIAL playoffs earned victories. RIVERSIDE 4 KEYSTONE OAKS 1 Hunter Garvin and Zack Hare combined for a no-hitter as top seeded Riverside earned a 4-1 victory over Keystone Oaks on Tuesday. Hare struck out nine batters on the afternoon but Keystone Oaks scored the games first run in the fourth inning without the aid of a hit. Donna Sue (Beckman) Bailey, 63, of Ellwood City, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep May 10th, 2024. Ready, Set, Spring! Mayor Anthony J. Court will once again be doing the “Beautification Awards Program” for Ellwood City residents. This is the 15th year of this successful program. 3 Rivers Comicon puts the comics back in Comicon! The 3 Rivers Comicon will take place June 1-2, 2024 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, putting the focus back on comics, creators and fans. Susan E. Bennett, 94, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024 at UPMC Jameson Hospital following a brief illness. Born January 22, 1930 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elizabeth McCullough Hollinback. She was married to Guy J. Bennett for 44 years when he passed away on July 14, 2012. Susan had graduated from Lincoln High School. For many years, she worked at Medusa in Wampum as a secretary. Louis A. Beatrice, 76, of Ellwood City, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at Butler Health System. Mr. Larry E. Jacobs, 77, of Ellwood City passed away on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at the Butler Memorial Hospital. Larry was born in New Martinsville, Maryland on July 14th, 1946 to the late Joseph and Yetta Jane (Baker) Jacobs. He is a member of the Riverside High School class of 1967 and the Lillyville Church of God. Three local teams will compete on Tuesday in the opening round of their respective WPIAL playoffs Top seeded Panthers boys baseball team will look to defend its WPIAL title as it opens its 2024 playoff journey on Tuesday. Riverside will take on #16 Keystone Oaks at 4:30 p.m. at North Allegheny High School.
