Helen Burns, 94, of Portersville Rd. Perry Township passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, June 2, 2024 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Born December 2, 1929 in Ellwood City, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Thelma Bartle McKinney Smith. She was married to Kenneth Burns for 66 years when he passed away in 2014. Helen graduated from Lincoln High School and was a member of the Wurtemburg Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time at home and at her camp in Marionville. Mayor Anthony J. Cheryl A. (Burcik) Thomas, 69, of Ellwood City, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.  Cheryl was a graduate of Riverside High School and the St. Francis School of Nursing. Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dolores Burcik. Cheryl’s love of nursing over 45 years took her to Pittsburgh, Las Vegas, Tampa, and back to Ellwood City, where she ended her career as a home health nurse. AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Arzie Hall, 20, of Ellwood City is charged with Aggravated Assault by Vehicle after an incident on March 26th. According to a criminal complaint, and at approximately 7:35 p.m., police were dispatched to Beaver Avenue for a motor vehicle accident. When police spoke to Hall and his passenger, they were told an argument had occurred and that Hall, the driver of the vehicle, looked away from the road and had hit a nearby telephone pole. Born May 19, 1929 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the late William Oris and Gertrude Gibson Houk. She was married to Paul N. Boots for 42 years when he passed away in 1993. This Saturday, June 1st, the Ellwood City Summer Concert Series returns in the Community Plaza! Come out and swing to the sounds of the 40’s and 50’s as the series kicks off with the Dante DiThomas Swing Band! The event is free to attend and will feature a 50/50 raffle. Ellwood City Wolves Host Annual Scholarship Dinner

The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II hosted their annual Scholarship Dinner on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the Connequenessing Country Club. The club provides 9 scholarships a year ($16,000) to graduating seniors from Lincoln and Riverside high schools and to two community college students.
