Hermitage Crowned Champion of Ellwood City 8U Firecracker Classic

Hermitage Area was crowned champion of the Ellwood City 8U Firecracker Classic this past weekend. The three day tournament featured area teams, including Ellwood City and Riverside 8U teams, competing across two fields in Ellwood City. Hermitage downed Central Valley 8-6 on Sunday to wrap up its championship run. Riverside earned three victories in the tournament before falling 6-5 to Central Valley in the semifinals on Sunday. Gaiser Center Cuts Ribbon on Recovery Home Serving Women and Children

Wolves Down Moose 11-1 To Win Ellwood City Little League Championship

The Wolves downed the Moose, 11-1, to capture the in-house Ellwood City Little League Championship at Freidhoff Field on Tuesday night. Joe Zito powered the Wolves to the title with his arm and his bat. Zito fired a two-hitter and fanned 15 batters on the mound and rapped a triple and two doubles at the plate. Ronald D. Rinker, 70, of North Sewickley Township, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, surrounded by family. Born August 5, 1953, in Oil City, he was the son of the late Dale F. and Irene R. Young Rinker. He married Betsy Bailey Rinker on February 24, 1973. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his infant brother Gary, and his father-in-law Chester Bailey. Mayor Anthony J. Court announced the 8th and final winner of 2024 “Beautification Awards”. Congratulations goes to Evan Westlund of 511 Mt. Vernon Drive. “Evan has done an outstanding job on his well-maintained property. Well deserved,” said Mayor Court in a statement. David Gregg Metheny, age 78, of Beaver Falls, passed away July 5, 2024. Gregg was born April 10, 1946 to the late David B. and Edith (Baker) Metheny. A lifelong resident of Beaver County, he was a 1964 graduate of Beaver Falls High School and attended Western State College, Gunnison, CO on a basketball scholarship. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force (1966-1970) and served in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. Ellwood City Man Found Dead After Stand Off With Police In Cranberry

A 37-year-old man from Ellwood City was exchanged gunfire before he was found dead in a wooded area after he exchanged gunfire with police on Tuesday, July 2nd near the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course in Butler County. According to a PA State Police report, and at approximately 10:30 a.m., Cranberry Township Police were called for a suspicious male who had pulled his vehicle over near an entrance to the golf course. Lincoln High School Class of 1954 Holds 70th Renuion

The LHS Class of 1954 held their last formal class reunion on Saturday, June 29 at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church of Ellwood City. Arrivals were greeted by the committee John Tino, Ilene Gardner and Pudue La Cava. Registration was conducted by the honorary class members, Judy Portugallo and Jackie Perno.
