Sophia (Sophie), Eva Wright Giffen, 94, of Ellwood City passed away Monday, August 12, 2024. She was born February 28, 1930, to the late Clarence and Stella (Weil) Wright in Ellwood City. Sophie was a 1948 graduate of Lincoln High School. She met and married the love of her life, William E. Giffen, on March 10, 1951, who preceded her in death in 1991. She was also a longtime member of Christ Presbyterian Church. She also worked at the Ellwood A&P for 16 years, working the meat counter. Wolverines Boys Golf Team Improve To 2-0 On Young Season

The Ellwood City boys golf team is off to a quick start, earning victories in their first two matches of the fall golf season. Junior Jordan Keller fired a match-low 32 on Friday to help Ellwood City earn a 205-213 victory over Ambridge at Fox Run Golf Course. Nate Kennedy finished with a round of 41, Braden Roberts a round of 42, and Andy Lin and Jaxon Rozanski rounded out the scoring with rounds of 45 for the Wolverines. Lincoln High School Class of 1964 Reunion Nearing

The 60th class reunion of the LHS Class of 1964 is getting closer. The reunion will start at 5:00 p.m. at the Connoquenessing Country Club on August 24, 2024. It will be a great time to catch up with “OLD” friends and maybe make some new ones. Although a ‘sit down’ dinner is not planned, there will be plenty of food to enjoy. There will also be a cash bar. Ellwood City Historical Society – August Update

At the August meeting of Ellwood City Historical Society, the board reviewed the Ways and Means committee reports. The Annual Fund Drive started June 15, 2024 and will end on August 15, 2024. Andy Kindle chairman of the committee stated that the society has received 70% of the $10,000.00 goal. The Society still needs the communities help to raise the needed $3,000.00. Mrs. Joann L. Docchio, 94, formerly of Koppel, and Trinity Oaks in Ellwood, passed away at the UPMC Jameson Nursing & Rehab Center on August 9th, 2024. Mrs. Docchio was born on July 14th, 1930 to the late Harold C. and Anna (Houk) Marshall. She was a working mother of five, Painting plates, cups, and dishes at Mayer China in Beaver Falls before owning and operating the Paramount Cafe in Wampum for over 20 years through the worst economic times of the 70’s and 80’s. Susan M. Cox, 64, of Ellwood City passed away at Heritage Valley Beaver on Saturday, August 10, 2024. Born in New Castle on June 13, 1960, Susan was the daughter of the late David and Eileen McCormick Durbin. She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Cox, whom she married on September 2, 1978. Dunkin’ Grand Opening Set For Monday, August 19th

Ellwood City runs on Dunkin’ The new Ellwood City Dunkin’ location is set to hold its grand opening on Monday, August 19th. This official announcement was provided this week by its franchise group, Heartland Restaurant Group. ECASD’s Board of Directors Approve Traffic Study at Site of Proposed Softball Field

The Ellwood City Area School District’s Board of Directors approved a traffic study of the Ewing Park Property where a softball field is proposed to be built during Thursday’s regular meeting. The study will be conducted by Gateway Engineers, at a cost not to exceed $4,000. All directors except for Norman Boots, Kathy Galbreath, and Kevin Boariu voted in favor of the study, and Director Claire Fauzey was absent from the meeting. Patricia (Patty) Skvarla, 89, of Ellwood City passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at UPMC Montefiore, Pittsburgh. Born July 30, 1935 in Lower Chewton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sylvia Leopardo. Patty graduated from Lincoln High School in 1953. She was very active in the community, being a member of the Women of the Moose, the Municipal Women’s Club, Challengers, and various card clubs.
