Lady Panthers Best Rival Ellwood City 54-50

The Lady Panthers bested rival Ellwood City 54-50 Monday evening at Riverside High School.

Camryn Friello connected on four 3-pointers, including two in a pivotal fourth quarter, en route to her game-high 16 points to lead Riverside.

Riverside entered the final quarter trailing by two points, but used a six point cushion in the frame to come out ahead for the victory.

Friello nailed two of her 3-pointers in the final frame and Emma Stockton added four of her 10 points in the 4th quarter to help pace the Lady Panthers (5-3 Overall, 2-0 Section 3A-1).

Stockton also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double and handed out five assists for Riverside. Emma Meyer posted three 3-pointers and 13 points as Meyer and Friello combined four seven triples in the victory.

Elsie Sturgeon accounted for all eight Lady Wolverines points in the final frame. Sturgeon finished with 14 points for Ellwood City. Kayla Jones score nine first half points – six free throws and a 3-pointer – as Ellwood City led 28-24 at halftime. Jones added four more free throws in the 3rd quarter but was held scoreless in the final quarter. Caitlin Kreitzer finished with 14 points in defeat for Ellwood City.

The teams combined for 38 free throw attempts in the contest.

Riverside continues its four game homestand and will host Beaver Falls on Thursday. Ellwood City (3-3 Overall, 0-2 Section 3A-1) will travel to face New Brighton on Thursday.

The boys will take the baton from the girls and continue the rivalry as Riverside (5-1 Overall) will host Ellwood City (3-3 Overall) on Tuesday in boys basketball action at Riverside High School.
