Carol J. (Brommer) Powers passed away peacefully on Friday November 8, 2024 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and grand-fur babies Toby and Willie.
Born October 1, 1948 in Newport (New Beaver Borough), she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Elizabeth E. Allen Brommer.
Later in life she met the love of her life, Matthew J. Powers. They married May 25, 1985 and resided very happily in Columbiana Ohio. The two of them enjoyed yearly trips to Las Vegas, monthly trips to Mountaineer Casino in WV and a couple of trips to Juneau Alaska. For many years, she worked as a waitress at Eat’n Park in New Castle.
Carol was a huge fan of soap operas, especially Days of Our Lives. She also loved Elvis and Celtic Thunder. She and her daughter looked forward to their yearly weekend getaways, where it was just the two of them. The weekends of fun always included a Celtic Thunder Show, a trip to a casino, shopping, swimming at the hotel pool, and eating lots of delicious restaurant food. Mostly though, the weekend was just about being together. They weren’t just mother and daughter, they were best friends from day one.
Carol was preceded in death by her dearly loved husband Matt, her dearly loved mother-in-law, Gertrude Powers, brother, Ronnie Brommer, one sister-in-law, Peg Brommer, and her brother-in-law, Dwain Guy.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Rick) Lance of New Castle; two stepsons, Dennis Powers of Juneau AK, and Lance (Susan) Powers of Creston OH; stepdaughter, Colleen (Charles) Thornton of Paris Ky; three grandchildren, Timmy Wellhausen of New Castle, Becca (Jim Coho) Lance of Altoona, and Mike (Brandi) Lance of Chester WV; five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Cian, Carter, Sylvia, and Gabriel, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and good friends.
Carol will be deeply missed by her loving friends and family. She will be forever remembered for her unwavering love and for always being there when needed. Always putting the needs of others before her own. Her smile, laughter and funny little comments will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by anyone who had the pleasure and honor of knowing her.
Friends will be received on Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 4 until the Funeral Service at 7 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St. Wampum. Pastor Dave Keppen will officiate. Interment will be in Clinton Cemetery.
