Blaine W. “Bill” Magill, Jr, 79

Blaine W. “Bill” Magill, Jr., age 79, of Ellwood City, PA, was welcomed into his Heavenly Home early Sunday morning, October 20, 2024 at his home in Hardyville. He was born in Ellwood City on March 18, 1945, son of the late Blain W. Magill, Sr., and Kathryn Geneva (Smith) Daufen.
Bill served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. On April 3, 1971, at Mountville Presbyterian Church in Portersville, PA, he married Sarah Leona (Brenner) Magill. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2020. He worked at the former Highway Equipment Company in Zelienople as a diesel mechanic for 35 years. He was a lead journeyman through Operating Engineers Local 66, where he also served as a union steward. As a young man, he enjoyed riding dirt bikes. Bill had a lifetime love of restoring classic cars. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending car cruises with his friends in one of his many “toys.” He regularly met up with fellow Highway Equipment retirees for breakfast and went bicycling and kayaking with his close work friends Bill Elser, Gail Zahn, and Dave Parsons. He was a founding member and past president of the Steel City Diecast Club and enjoyed collecting model cars of every scale. He was a faithful member of Wiley Hill Baptist Church. Above all, he was a good man. He is survived by his son, Cody B. Magill, of Tionesta, PA. Two brothers, Stephen G. Magill and his fiancée Mary Neuberger of Ellport, PA, and Michael R. “Luke” Magill and friend of the family Tami Eversole of Chewton, PA. Two sisters, Darlene E. Schaffer of Fombell, PA, and Dianne S. Buckley of Kremmling, CO. His brother-in-law, Bruce Brenner and his wife Judy of Castlewood, PA. Two sisters-in-law, Christine F. Brenner of Ellwood City and Deborah Lehman of Broken Arrow, OK. Several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. His beloved canine companion, Missy.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Kenneth M. “Skip” Brenner, Jr., Wayne Lehman, Alvin Schaffer, and Denis Buckley.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Turner-Hyde Funeral and Cremation Services, 500 6th Street, Ellwood City. Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the funeral home with Pastor David DeGroff of the Tionesta United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be alongside his wife at Mountville Cemetery in Portersville.
The family would like to thank two very special family members, Christine Brenner and Susan Wetzel, for their invaluable help during Bill’s final days, as well as Trish and the staff of Amedisys Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053. Messages of sympathy may be left at (Funeral Home).
