Turner-Hyde Funeral & Cremation Services Marks Five Years with New Owners

Adam C. and Angela S. Hyde are celebrating 5 years of owning Turner-Hyde Funeral & Cremation Services.

Adam says the once “Turner Funeral Home” has undergone many changes in those 5 years and he is proud to say that seeking services with Turner-Hyde is an entirely new experience and those who call are treated like we would like to be treated, just like family

“We provide services that the likes of Ellwood City has never seen,” Adam said. “And we have a lot of passion.”

Adam and Angela have been married for 20 years and have two children, Hannah, 17 and Jackson who is, 14. The Hyde’s made the move to Ellwood City from Alabama, in 2019.

“I found a very small ad in a funeral industry periodical, and the rest is history. I visited Ellwood City twice in the summer of 2019 and fell in love with the funeral home and the community.”

According to Adam, Pennsylvania has been the perfect fit for our family and it is a great place to raise our children and own and operate our funeral home.

I have always found Ellwood City and Western Pennsylvania as a very similar place to where I grew up in Western Jefferson County (Birmingham, AL) due to the steel mills, coal mines and just good-hearted people and a great community plus wonderful food to enjoy and eat!”

Hyde believes that in a family’s time of grieving, they need a trusted funeral director to ease their mind and provide comfort in knowing that their loved one is well taken care of. He knows this from first-hand experience the impact a funeral director can have on family. He lost his father in a corporate plane crash in 1991, when he was 11, and it was the start of his interest in a career of his own in this industry.

“I came to admire the sacred work that the funeral directors who took care of my family 33 years ago with the death of my father and I felt that their noble career would be a place in which I could help those on the worst day of their life and guide them the best I could through their journey.”

And according to Adam, that is an inspiration for him every day as he serves the families in Ellwood City.

“We have been very proud to greatly improve the funeral home in which we purchased, by providing many better options today that have never been offered or provided before our purchase. We have simplified the process of choosing merchandise, funeral and cremation services and options here at the funeral home or even in your home to best meet the needs of today’s families. We are here to serve the families first and foremost and lastly; we have forever created an environment of care and trust.”

Turner-Hyde is a full-service funeral home, with numerous funeral and cremation service options.

Traditional Earth Burial is available with various and unique burial caskets and burial vaults and to add to that offering they have begun to sell cemetery monuments and memorials inclusive of cremation niches, cremation benches, and private family columbaria, for the interment of cremated remains in urns.

Our Cremation Services range from Simple/Direct Cremation, Memorial Services all the way to a Full Funeral and Visitation before the cremation will occur.

Adam has many years of experience serving cremation families and assisting them in choosing the most unique and special options for their loved ones and providing and guiding them with unique ideas.

“While working in Florida and Alabama I was also a crematory operator and certified cremation specialist and bring many years of cremation experience to Ellwood City garnering my experience, especially from Florida where their cremation rate is roughly 90%, so my cremation experience is very thorough.”

Turner-Hyde also offers Green Burial Options along with specific green merchandise ranging from shrouds to “green” containers that hold the body and even Green “Certified” embalming fluid by The Champion Company and by the Green Burial Council should a family request it.

Adam’s experience and travels have afforded him the opportunity to provide services for varying faiths ranging from Christian to Hindu to Jewish, and Greek Orthodox and even Egyptian Orthodox.

“I was honored to serve 5 different Catholic parishes including the Cathedral of St. James, in Orlando, FL. I provided the utmost and respected services to those who called on me to guide them as well. Having the ability to lay to rest numerous parishioners of the Catholic Faith as well as traveling out of state to lay to rest several catholic priests and nuns and even a bishop gave me such a deep understanding of the beautiful ambiance and sacred work that goes into caring for those as well as my experience caring for nearly 700 Catholic families each year that I was honored to care for, thus increasing my level of service to hold as an experienced and well-traveled funeral director.”

Adam said that it has been a great 5 years. Despite COVID -19 occurring 5 months after the Hydes purchased Turner’s they have overcome that beginning hurdle and have completely integrated into the community. The couple is honored to be part of the Ellwood City Historical Society, with his wife, Angela being a board member and serving as Treasurer to continually being able to support American Legion of Ellwood City, The Rotary Club of Ellwood City, Angela is also the Treasurer of Ellwood City Women’s network and Adam became a member of the Ellwood-Parian Masonic Lodge No. 599 just as “My grandfather, Charles M. Sessions, had been a Freemason many years ago in Alabama.”

Community involvement and being part of Ellwood City and the surrounding townships is part of what we do here. “We value our community, and we value all the people who live here as all of us together make a wonderful place to live.”

Adam looks forward to continuing to serve area families with experience and dignity and promises families the most up to date practices in death care.

“It has been such an honor to be able to own and operate Turner-Hyde Funeral & Cremation Services and be given the opportunity to live and work in Ellwood City. We take our responsibility very seriously and each family is very important to us, and most of the time those families become our friends, which is very special to us.”
