This past week, representatives from ELLWOOD celebrated Manufacturing Week with a visit to a number of schools throughout Lawrence County.
The tour is a lead-up to today’s National Manufacturing Day that is celebrated each year on the first Friday in October.
ELLWOOD partners with Lawrence County School-to-Work to coordinate the effort, reaching hundreds of students and raising awareness of the many manufacturing career opportunities available in the community.
Manufacturing Day is a nationally recognized day reserved by manufacturers to engage students, it is the industry’s biggest opportunity to educate students, inspire the next generation of creators and promote the many career opportunities available in manufacturing.
In 2022, ELLWOOD expanded on the idea and launched their Manufacturing Week, a partnership with area high schools to present on local opportunities to as many students as possible.
“This is one of our favorite times of the year as we are able to truly get in front of the next generation of manufacturing professionals and really give them an opportunity to understand who we are and what careers are available for them locally,” said Dena Baptiste, Director of Talent Management with ELLWOOD. “We are grateful for the partnership with Lawrence County School-to-Work and our area is lucky to have a group like theirs working to make a difference.”
ELLWOOD has five locations in Lawrence County and is the area’s largest manufacturer and manufacturing employer. The 30-minute presentations highlight the company’s many divisions, ELLWOOD’s team members and the impact ELLWOOD steel has throughout the country and around the world. Area students learned of the many industries that rely on ELLWOOD every day such as power generation, aerospace, mining, defense and more.
“We are fortunate to have the trust of the local administrators who work to ensure we are in front of as many students as possible,” said Quyrus Epps, Director of Team Member Relations with ELLWOOD. “They understand the importance of this initiative and not many communities can say that they have so many groups investing in the future of their youth.”
