Helen M. Guy, 91, of Wampum passed away Thursday, October 3, 2024 at her residence with her family by her side.
Born August 25, 1933 in Wampum, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Mary Ryan Johnson. She was married to Lynn N. Guy for 64 years. They were together as a couple for almost 70 years when he passed away in 2016.
Helen was a graduate of Wampum High School in 1951. She worked as a secretary at the St. Francis and Ellwood City Hospitals and was a devoted wife and mother. Helen was a member of the former St. Monica’s Church in Wampum where she served on the altar and rosary society and a member of the current Divine Grace Parish Holy Redeemer Church. She served her community as a lifetime member of the Wampum Women’s Club and as a former Girl Scout Leader. She loved cooking and baking, music, especially Elvis, vacations to the beach, and swimming in her pool with her grandchildren. Her most cherished moments were spent with her family and grandchildren. She had a special talent of making the holidays treasured memories. Her indelible spirit and wonderful sense of humor will be irreplaceable to all that loved her.
Survivors include three daughters, Terri (Mark Shaffer) Guy of Wampum, Cynthia (Edward) Cassella of New Castle, and Rachel (Aaron) Guy-Connell of New Castle; son, Rodney (Jeanne) Guy of Prospect; two grandsons, Brett (Alyssa) Cassella, and Cole Guy; five granddaughters, Paige Cassella, Jocelyn and Rheannon Guy, and Gwendolynn and Helaina Connell; several nieces and nephews, and her sister, Mary Jane Craven of Wampum.
In addition to her parents and husband Lynn, she was preceded in death by three brothers; George Jr, Paul, and Lester E. “Leddie” Johnson; sister, Margaret Widowfield Clark, and her beloved uncle who helped raise her Lester H. Johnson.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care provided by St. Luke’s Medical and by her daughter Terri over the last few years.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday October 6, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main Street Wampum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Divine Grace Parish Holy Redeemer Church on October 7, 2024 at 11:00 am with Father Joseph Freedy officiating.
Interment will follow in Parkside Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Wampum Women’s Club or to the Wampum Volunteer Fire Department.
