Borough Alerting Residents Of Recent Round Of Scams

The Borough of Ellwood City is alerting residents of another round of scams that are targeting the elderly residents of Ellwood City.

According to information made available by the borough, the scams are claiming that back property taxes are owed and they are delinquent and need to be paid according to Mayor Anthony J. Court.

“Although some scammers have been brought to justice, new ones are popping up every day and it won’t stop anytime soon,” says Mayor Court. “We don’t want our local residents to fall victim of this latest scam.”

The borough asks residents to be extra vigilant when answering phone calls, emails, and texts asking for personal information or for exchanging money or gift cards. Mayor Court advises to never offer any personal information or money and do not pay by gift card or wiring money and contact your local police department.
