All Aboard Ellwood Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the industrial and railroad heritage of Ellwood City, has received a generous pledge of $400,000 from the May Emma Hoyt Foundation.
This substantial commitment will help fund the construction of a replica train station that will house the proposed Industrial and Railroad Museum.
A Vision for the Future:
The proposed museum, designed to reflect the historic train station that once stood as a landmark in Ellwood City, will highlight the critical role trains played in the region’s industrial development. The museum will feature a variety of interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and educational programs that will engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds. “The Industrial Museum will be a unique and vital resource for our community,” said Ray Santillo, President of All Aboard Ellwood. “By showcasing the important role of trains in industry, we aim to educate, inspire, and foster a deeper appreciation for our industrial heritage for the next generation.”
The museum represents the final phase of a multi-year effort by All Aboard Ellwood to honor the borough’s rich railroad history. This initiative began with the restoration of a Chessie System caboose, which is now displayed at the intersection of Fourth Street and Beaver Avenue. The acquisition and demolition of the former VFW building on Fourth Street marked the second phase, providing the land needed for the new museum.
Campaign Goals:
All Aboard Ellwood has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $1,000,000 to complete phase three, the construction of the museum. The key components of the museum will include:
- Historical Exhibits: Showcasing the evolution of train technology and its impact on industry.
- Interactive Displays: Offering hands-on experiences with industrial machinery and railway models.
- Educational Programs: Providing workshops and lectures for students and the public.
- Community Events: Hosting events that celebrate industrial and railway history.
The pledge from the May Emma Hoyt Foundation has brought the campaign to over 50% of its fundraising goal, marking a significant milestone in this community-driven initiative.
All Aboard Ellwood is reaching out to community members, local businesses, and philanthropists to join in this historic endeavor. Contributions of any size are welcome, and naming opportunities are available for major donors.
“We believe that the Industrial Museum will not only preserve our past but also inspire future generations of innovators and engineers,” said Santillo. “We are confident that with the support of our community, we can make this vision a reality.”
