The Ellwood City Wolves Club Den II met on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at their Shelter in Ewing Park. President Mike DeOtto opened the meeting introducing guests which included the coaches and members of the Ellwood City Track and Riverside Baseball, Cross Country and Track Teams.
The Club presented the Pro Bono Publico Awards to members of the Ellwood City and Riverside Baseball, Cross Country and Track Teams for their outstanding performance in regional and state championships and set school records in 2023.
Awards were presented to:
- Ellwood Basketball player Joe Roth who has a combined 2000 points scored in his high school career.
- Ellwood Track Team members Colten Crizer, Drew Steffler, Nick Wise, Nick Franitti and Bradley Custer. They set a school record and placed second in the WPIAL finals for the two mile relay.
- Ellwood Track Team members Darius Custer, Nick Franitti, Nick Wise and Colten Crizer also set a school record and were second place in the one mile relay in the WPIAL championships.
- Colten Crizer set a school record and was the 800m champion in the WPIAL championships.
- Nick Franitti also set a school record and was the boys 300m hurdle WPIAL champion.
- Riverside Cross Country Team member Lexi Fluharty, who set a school record and finished in first place in the WPIAL and in third place in the PIAA championships.
- Riverside Track Team member Reece Sullivan who took first place in the WPIAL pole vault and seventh place pole vault in the PIAA championships.
- Riverside Baseball Team Player Hunter Gavin for Riverside Baseball Team being first in AAA All State Baseball. Player Zack Hare as best player in AAA Baseball All State.
Missing from the presentation were Riverside Cross Country Team members Brooke Wissinger, WPIAL thirteenth place, Devon Montileone, WPIAL eighth place and Baseball Player Zack Hare best player AAA All State.
The Wolves Club motto is Pro Bono Publico meaning For the Good of the Public. The Wolves Club participates in various community events as well as hosting their own programs to fund their scholarship programs. New members are always welcome. During the summer, the Club meets at their shelter in Ewing Park each second and fourth Wednesdays at 630PM.
