Winifred Goatley Daniel, 86

“Though she be but little, she is fierce.” On July 18, 2024, Winifred Yvonne Goatley Daniel departed this life at the home of her daughter after a short illness. Born in Chewton, PA August 20, 1937 to William and Imogene Goatley, she graduated from Wampum High School (’55) and Central State University (BA ’60). She went on to teach grades 1-8 for over forty years in the CMSD, Maple Heights City Schools and Warren City Schools districts. Her favorite grade to teach was 4th Grade, and she took pride in teaching all of her students the songs “Star Spangled Banner” and “Tomorrow” along with the prescribed curriculum. She joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1980 and in addition to volunteer work, quilting and craft shows were her passion.
Known as “MeMe” to her grandchildren (Gabrielle and Harry Liam Johnson), she leaves to honor her memory her only child, Jacci (Harry) Johnson, a much beloved nephew, Leonard Goatley, adored nieces Yvonne Goatley Houk and Ruth Walker. Her sister, Marylynn McClannahan, members of the Johnson family, a large number of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and Sorors also mourn her passing.
A memorial service will be held August 3, 2024 at Marshall Funeral Home 341 Main St. Wampum, PA. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with services at 11:00 am. The family will host a small reception after the services in Wampum. Special thanks to Hospice of the Valley and the nurses in the Stroke Unit at St. Elizabeth’s Youngstown for their care.
