Trinity Lutheran Church Welcomes New Pastor

Trinity Lutheran Church. located on Spring Avenue in Ellwood City, is pleased to welcome to the community its new pastor, the Rev. David R. Saylor, who began his ministry on July 1st.

Pastor Dave grew up in rural Somerset County and graduated from North Star High School in Boswell. He is one of 8 children. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and subsequently entered seminary, having responded to a call to ordained ministry during his college years. He graduated from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg and was ordained into the Lutheran Church in America; now the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He has served primarily in parishes throughout western Pennsylvania for forty years. Pastor Dave has also served as Chaplain for a Hospice service and in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh. Most recently he also loved serving as a school bus driver for the Mars Area School district with A.J. Myers and Sons.

He is married to Carol and has five adult children; three of whom live at home. He and his wife have been blessed with one granddaughter who is 18 months old. They all live in the Pittsburgh area. Pastor and his family live in Mars, PA with their two cats, Gus and Ruby.

He has enjoyed golf and Sudoku as hobbies. He is a big Pirates fan as well as all local sports teams. Above all, he enjoys having his family around him and being the best (or worst) at Dad jokes.

Pastor Dave is pleased to have accepted this new calling in his ministry and looks forward to finding his way around the area and meeting people from all walks of life to share the good news of the Gospel.

His official installation by the office the Bishop of the Southwestern Pennsylvania will take place at Trinity Church on Sunday October 13th, at 4:00 PM. The Rev. Peter Asplin, Assistant to the Bishop and the Rev. Margarethe Galbraith-Cordes, Dean of Conference One, will officiate. The Rev. Peggy Suhr-Barkley, former pastor of Trinity will preach.
