Hermitage Area was crowned champion of the Ellwood City 8U Firecracker Classic this past weekend.
The three day tournament featured area teams, including Ellwood City and Riverside 8U teams, competing across two fields in Ellwood City.
Hermitage downed Central Valley 8-6 on Sunday to wrap up its championship run.
Riverside earned three victories in the tournament before falling 6-5 to Central Valley in the semifinals on Sunday. Riverside opened up its tournament with an impressive 17-1 victory over crosstown rival Ellwood City on Friday.
Riverside added on another rout Saturday, besting Shenango 21-2, and defeated Beaver Falls 7-4 on Sunday to advance to the semifinals as the #2 seed in the tournament.
Ellwood City split its next two games, falling to Beaver 12-11 before collecting its first victory in the tournament by defeating New Brighton 10-5 on Sunday.
The victory advanced Ellwood City to face top-seeded Center Township, who knocked off Ellwood City 10-4 on Sunday afternoon.
Center Township was then knocked off by Hermitage in the semifinals, as the tournaments top two teams could not advance to the championship game.
Madden McKim of Central Valley won the tournament home run derby.
The 10U All-Star tournament will be this coming weekend. The 73rd Annual Ellwood City Little League Tournament is scheduled to begin July 22nd. More details can be found at
