Raymond D. Hupko, 87, of Slippery Rock Township passed away with his family by his side on Monday morning, June 3, 2024, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. He was the son of the late Thomas and Susan (Dubinsky) Hupko and was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Ellwood City.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters, Kathy (Jim) Swartz of Texas, Colleen (John) Yoho of Arizona, Todd (Barb) Hupko of New Castle, Amy Hupko of New Castle, Christian and his wife, Allyssa, of Kansas and Jamal Hupko of Maryland; his grandchildren; Ashley Tran and her husband Griffith, Jennifer Book and her husband, Dan, Kelly Nogee and her husband Travis, Xian Hupko, Bob Swartz and his wife Sabrina, Travis Swartz and his wife Jess, Brandon Swartz, James Swartz, Jack Swartz, Joshua Hupko and Andrew Hupko, eight great-grandchildren; one brother; Tom Hupko and his wife Julie, of Ohio along with with several nieces and nephews.
Ray was born in Ellwood City and was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School. He enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant after 4 years of honorable service. During Ray’s time in the Air Force, he was also “Airman of the Month”, in which he was very proud. After his time in the US Air Force, he returned home and went to work for A&P 1953-1979, eventually becoming Store Manager and between 1979-1998 he was employed by Giant Eagle as a Store Manager.
He met and married the love of his life, Virginia “Jinx” Weatherby and they were married January 16, 1960, and were married 58 years. He and his wife were active members of Harmony Baptist Church, in New Castle.He was a very talented artist, cook and woodworker and he enjoyed mowing his grass, keeping his lawn pristine. He enjoyed home renovations and other various projects, that he enjoyed doing with his family. He loved his family and was very involved and very close to all of them especially his grandchildren. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia “Jinx” Hupko, his sister; Virginia Theuerl, one brother; Albert Hupko, sister; Margaret Collins, and brother; Paul Hostinisky.
Friends may call on the family on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 4:00pm-7:00PM at the Harmony Baptist Church located at 4103 Ellwood Road in New Castle with Funeral Services will be held immediately following at 7:00PM with Reverend Jeff Mackay and Dr. Rev. Scott Gibson, Officiating.
Interment will be in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in New Castle on Friday, June 7, 2024
